BMW's X6 crossover sport utility vehicle is a niche offering that was first introduced in 2008 and is getting a modest update for the 2013 model year. Although it occupies a relatively small market segment, BMW has nonetheless sold over 150,000 X6s worldwide in the last three years. In fact, the sales figures are much higher than BMW expected them to be and the changes for 2013, though modest, make for a more appealing X6.

For 2013, the X6 features optional adaptive LED headlights, and the standard fog lights are now housed in matte finish housings. The revised X6 also features a more expressive front grille and new LED taillights. Inside, the standard Nevada leather is now available in an additional new colour, Vermilion Red. As before, the X6 comes with seating for four occupants, though a three-seat rear bench is available as an option to allow for five-seat capacity.

Power comes from either a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-litre straight 6-cylinder engine that generates 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, or a TwinPower Turbo 4.4-litre V8 that produces 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come mated to BMW's 8-speed automatic transmission.

For those who desire more power, the high performance X6 M is also available and packs a TwinPower Turbo V8 engine with a monstrous 555 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The X6 M uses a 6-speed M Sport automatic transmission and benefits from separately developed suspension technology.

The X6 is even offered as a hybrid vehicle in the form of the ActiveHybrid X6 and features an electric motor, brake energy regeneration and a two-mode active transmission.

While the Canadian sale date has not been announced for the slightly revised 2013 X6, it is scheduled to arrive in United States this spring and is expected to come to Canada at approximately the same time.
