POSTED 4:45 P.M. Four people were transported to the Meteghan wharf on Tuesday afternoon, May 29, onboard a fishing vessel after the fishing boat they were on sank around 2.5 nautical miles off of Saulnierville in St. Mary’s Bay.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) said the fishing boat Double or Nothing had picked up the four crewmembers. The cause of the vessel’s sinking was unknown. The JRCC identified the sunken vessel as the Lady LeBlanc.
The JRCC was contacted to help coordinate an ambulance to meet the fishing vessel at the wharf. It said this was the extent of its involvement.
Emergency Health Services confirmed that paramedics responded to the wharf on Tuesday afternoon. The call came in to EHS at 2:53 p.m.
"Two patients were transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital in non-life threatening condition," said EHS media spokesperson Stacey Brown, who said she couldn't comment on the specifics of their injuries due to privacy reasons.
Contacted late Tuesday afternoon, the Meteghan RCMP detachment said it was still collecting information on the incident and didn't have many details at that point.
