Re-opening of closed bivalve shellfish harvesting areas

On Sept. 4, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advised the public that the shellfish harvesting closures for bivalve molluscs issued on Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31st due to heavy rainfall in the Maritime Provinces have been lifted for the following areas: * PEI Malpeque * PEI North Shore Gulf * PEI East * PEI West Northumberland * NS Southwest with exception of Annapolis Basin * NS Eastern Shore

All other closures within these areas due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning, Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning and bacteriological contamination remain in effect.
