More re-openings of closed harvesting areas

On Sept. 5, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advised the public that the shellfish harvesting closures for bivalve molluscs issued on Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31st due to heavy rainfall in the Maritime Provinces have been lifted for the following areas: * Northumberland Nova Scotia * Gulf Shore of Cape Breton * Southwest New Brunswick (with the exception of areas under closure for paralytic shellfish poisoning and waste water treatment plant failure) * Coastal waters of Nova Scotia (Waters of the Gulf of St.Lawrence)

All other closures within these areas due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning, Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning and bacteriological contamination remain in effect.

DFO is issuing daily notices on the reopenings. On Sept. 6 and 7 they announced there were no additional reopenings to the ones already announced.
