On the afternoon of Nov. 14, the RCMP in Mary’s Harbour, Labrador, responded to a boat fire at the community wharf in nearby St. Lewis.

The fishing vessel Ocean Fox was ablaze while tied to the community wharf. The local fire department was also on the scene. Firefighters advised the RCMP that the fire was too hot to go near.

Firefighters could barely stay within 100 feet of the blazing vessel and the fire chief made the decision that the boat would have to be released from the community wharf, otherwise the fire may have spread.

The vessel, a 64-foot, 11-inch fiberglass stern dragger, was released from the wharf.

The RCMP are continuing its investigation into the cause of the fire.
